Various "Who's that?"s

er
Again, sorry they are a bit wonky.
By comparing with other pictures, I have now identified the young lad as my cousin Peter Alan Mackie.

Hi, this is the son of Peter Mackie, and I appreciate the work you've put into this family page!
The one problem is that this boy is not Peter Alan Mackie, his hair has never been blond. Plus, it's rare to have him smile in a picture, and never that wide.
Otherwise, great site!

Hi Steve, It's good to hear from you. I didn't recognise Peter at first, but I later came across another photo - I haven't uploaded it here yet - of this young lad with a little girl. On the back, in uncle Jack's handwriting it says "Peter with Jayne from next door, the day of the party." I don't think he's actually blond, it may just be a trick of the light and when he was younger, his hair was a few shades lighter. I still have quite a number of Jack's old photos to scan and upload, including some even younger ones of Peter where he is beaming broadly! I'll see if I can find some time over the Easter bank holiday to scan some in and upload them. Incidentally, yesterday - or today depending on where you are - anyway, 13th April, would have been Celia's 101st birthday.

Hi Phil,
Thank you for your response. As I look at the photo it could be my father, as I have no photos of him that young. He may have had his hair darken by the age of 10.
And you are correct, my grandmother - Celia - would have been 101. And I don't know if you know, but my father Peter Mackie passed away in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on April 25, 2011. It was a short bout of lung cancer.

Hi Steve,
No I'm afraid I hadn't heard of Peter's death. My sister Pauline and I met him when we were over in 2005, but we hadn't kept in touch apart from the odd very occasional phone call. Please accept my condolences.

Hi Phil,
Thank you for them, and in turn thanks for this website. Without my father I was having a problem with the family tree, but your post "The Mackie family and their wives - revisited" lists my grandfather John "Jack" Adam Mackie's father, Albert Charles Mackie. Through this I have his parents and siblings, and this and their dates will allow me to develop that side of the family tree.

Hi Steve,
Are you on Genes Reunited?
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/home/index
I think you can register and create a tree for free; you only need to pay to search and view records. If you create a very sketchy tree - just you and your father should be enough - you should get a tree match with me, then send me a request to view my tree. I haven't done any work on it or a long while, but you may find something of interest. Good luck with Albert's mother's family - Thomas is not exactly a rare surname in Pembroke.

Thank you and I will check on genes reunited.co.uk, I will see you there!

Hi Steve,
Apologies for the very long delay since we were last in contact. It is all too easy to set something aside for the moment then never get back to it. But now I am retired and - in theory - have plenty of time to myself, I have returned to genealogical researches. I had been working recently on the McCanns, particularly Ada's sister Elizabeth. I never knew of her until I found her in old census records; I don't think Don or Jack kept in contact with her side of the family and no letters or photos have materialised in the archives. But as I was piecing her branch of the tree together I was contacted out of the blue by one of her granddaughters. Margaret had been looking for information about Ethel, Ada and Elizabeth's sister who became a Hollywood actress. From there, I have also learned more about Ethel and made a number of recent posts about her.
Belatedly, I have now posted a few more photos of your father as a boy and his parents. I'm sure there are more somewhere. I have also discovered more in the records about Celia's family. If you would like to contact me direct - phil@philmackie.wanadoo.co.uk - I can go into detail.
Cheers,
Phil
